Y.O.G.A. for Youth (Kundalini-based) — School-Based Program for Minority Youth DESIGN: School-based intervention study. POPULATION: Children from low-income, high-minority communities. PROGRAM: Y.O.G.A. for Youth (Your Own Greatness Affirmed) — Kundalini yoga-based program. IMPLEMENTING ORG: YOGA for Youth nonprofit — has implemented yoga in juvenile incarceration facilities, prisons, and after-school programs for 16+ years. KY COMPONENTS (from paper): • Kriyas: specific sequences of physical postures or asanas • Meditation: exercises ability to self-regulate thoughts and emotions, brings thought patterns into awareness • Physical body preparation through yoga postures to release tension and stress • Holistic and comprehensive approach to yoga practice STUDY FOCUS: Resilience, self-regulation, stress reduction in youth exposed to chronic stress. OUTCOMES: Perceived stress, affect, emotion regulation, resilience, fatigue. NOTE: This is a Kundalini yoga-based school program, not a clinical trial of KY per se. The YOGA for Youth program is a well-established community intervention.
