KY Protocol Components

Medical Yoga (Kundalini-based) for Burnout/Stress: RCT DESIGN: RCT; Medical Yoga + standard treatment (n=19) vs. standard treatment only (n=18). POPULATION: Patients at primary health care centre (Sweden) with stress-related conditions. STRUCTURE: 12-week group program. STANDARD TREATMENT (both groups): Prescribed pharmacological treatment, individual physical activity, individual consultations with nurse/psychologist/physiotherapist/counselor. MEDICAL YOGA PROTOCOL: • Derives from classic Kundalini yoga (northern India/Tibet origins) • Designed for people who are severely ill • Class includes: positions, movements, breathing techniques, mantras, and meditation • Starting position: sitting, lying, or standing • Movements generally slower than traditional yoga OUTCOMES: Burnout (Shirom-Melamed Burnout Questionnaire; critical value 3.75), HADS anxiety/depression, chest expansion (thoracic excursions at xiphoid process). RANDOMIZATION: Computer-generated list, sealed opaque envelopes. NOTE: Parent study for Anderzen-Carlsson 2014 qualitative analysis.
