Kundalini Yoga and "Spiritual Emergency" / Mental Health: Qualitative Study DESIGN: Qualitative study (interviews) exploring Kundalini awakening experiences. PUBLICATION: Mental Health, Religion & Culture. FOCUS: Discursive constructions of experiences related to "Kundalini awakening" — examining how biomedical discourse labels these as "psychosis" while alternative discourse frames them as "spiritual emergency" or "Kundalini awakening." KEY INFORMANTS: Include trainee psychotherapist who discussed approaches to help people experiencing Kundalini awakening: normalizing experience, grounding techniques ("long walks, good food, plenty of water, rest, sunlight, sitting near trees, gardening"). NOTE: This is NOT an intervention study. It examines the intersection of Kundalini-related spiritual experiences with mental health discourse. No yoga protocol was administered. The study explores how practitioners/clinicians conceptualize intense spiritual experiences.
