Kundalini Yoga in Prison: Ethnographic Study SETTING: Remand prison in Spain. DESIGN: Ethnographic/qualitative study using participant observation, surveys (n=54 inmates), and 25 interviews (inmates, yoga teachers, social educators, prison personnel). FIELDWORK: Conducted March-July 2014 in remand prison, with additional comparison to long-term prison. YOGA PROGRAM: • 2-hour lessons, 3 days per week (intensive course) • Also regular weekly yoga class available • Taught by yoga teachers in prison setting STUDY FOCUS: How inmates experience yoga in prison context; uncertainty management (remand) vs. survival strategy (long-term prison). Ethnographic observation of lived experience, not clinical trial. ADDITIONAL DATA: Inmates' writings and paintings collected during fieldwork. NOTE: This is a human studies/ethnographic paper (published in Human Studies), not a clinical intervention study. Protocol details are secondary to the ethnographic analysis of yoga's meaning in prison context.
