Kundalini Yoga for Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD): Pilot Study DESIGN: Pilot open trial (not RCT); KY intervention (n=34) vs. treatment-as-usual (n=15). POPULATION: Females aged 24-75 years with GAD (N=49). DURATION: 8-week intervention. PROTOCOL: Early pilot testing of KY for GAD. Specific session-by-session components not detailed in this publication (described as Kundalini Yoga intervention). KEY FINDING: Changes in somatic symptoms mediated treatment outcome for KY — suggesting KY may convey its effect on anxiety by reducing somatic symptoms. RELATIONSHIP TO OTHER STUDIES: Preceded the Simon 2021 large RCT (JAMA Psychiatry) which used the more fully developed KY-GAD protocol. This pilot helped establish feasibility for that larger trial. NOTE: Limited protocol description in paper. Protocol details likely similar to but preceding the formalized KY-GAD protocol used in Khalsa 2015 and Simon 2021.
